JUNOCO Cleansing Balm and Brand Review

There’s a lot of skincare out there, but finding what works can be such a waste of time and money! So, I’m happy to share a brand that just works. In today’s post, I’ll be reviewing JUNOCO and their products.

Full disclosure: this blog post is sponsored, but all the comments in this post are my genuine thoughts. The brand has not told me what I have to say, nor has it asked me to refrain from making any negative comments about the brand or their products (this is the sign of a brand who knows their products are the real deal!)

JUNOCO is a Californian skincare brand whose approach to skincare is that simple, gentle but effective formulations are best, and that we should make sustainable choices where possible.

Their philosophy is one that I share; humans have real skin, and this means we shouldn’t see natural things such as pores and texture as negative things. Their claims are fair- they don’t claim that they will transform your skin, but they are a healthy, balanced and gentle addition to your life and skincare routine (that make my routine that little bit easier and smoother!)

As you guys know, I’m a big advocate of making eco-friendly swaps where possible, and being conscious of the damage we all do to the planet. JUNOCO are also conscious of this, and they are minimalist and sustainable with their packaging and ingredients, and micro-plastics free. They also source ingredients that are by-products of other industries and would ordinarily be wasted, to make more sustainable and less wasteful choices as a brand. This is something I love.

Their products are organic, cruelty free and vegan too! Now, let’s get onto the products!

They sent me 3 of their products for review: their Clean 10 Cleansing Balm, Clarifying Cleansing Powder, and Cleansing Cookie.

Clean 10 Cleansing Balm

JUNOCO Cleansing Balm

On this account, and over on my Instagram, you’ll see that I’ve reviewed many cleansing balms and cleansing oils. But this is honestly the best one I’ve ever used, in terms of effectiveness, but also user experience.

Cleansing balms are used as a first cleanse to break down makeup and SPF, before following up with a second cleanse. I like to use a water-based cleanser after a balm or oil cleanser, as this is the step that properly cleanses the skin (after your first cleanse breaks down the SPF and dust on the skin).

Their Clean 10 Cleansing Balm contains only 10 ingredients (including vitamin E and pearl barley), and it has a smoother than butter texture. I was surprised by how soft and smooth it feels, and how it just glides over the skin as you’re massaging it over your skin. I’ve used several cleansing balms that are effective at removing makeup, but they just feel so dry when working them into your skin, which leads to unnecessary tugging of the skin and it just doesn’t feel as nice to use.

This balm cleanser breaks down all my makeup effectively- I’ve never had issues with makeup traces left on the skin after using this balm. It also breaks down my stubborn to remove Korean lip tints!

JUNOCO Cleansing Balm

Once you’ve worked the cleanser into your makeup, you add some water to emulsify the oil. Balm and oil cleansers are clever, as they contain emulsifiers that bind the oil to the water, turning the oil into a milky watery texture. This should wash away with ease, leaving you with soft, cleansed skin. I say ‘should’, because not all of them emulsify well. But this leaves my skin feeling untouched. It’s soft, smooth, but doesn’t feel greasy or heavy. I’ve never used a balm cleanser that leaves my skin feeling so good after cleansing.

Some balm cleansers sting my eyes as I have sensitive eyes, but even when I use this to remove my eye makeup, I don’t experience stinging.

The only possible downside for this product could be that it contains orange essential oil for the fragrance. I personally don’t mind fragrance, but I know that people with very sensitive skin may have issue with it. But I enjoy its mild citrusy scent.

As you can maybe tell, this is my favourite product of theirs! I’m so impressed this is only $14.95.

Clarifying Cleansing Powder

This is quite a cool product! Although this is a cleanser, it is in powder form. You pour about half a teaspoon of the powder in your hand and add some water. Gently rub the mixture between your hands (it’ll form a foam!), and use it to cleanse your face as normal. This is a second cleanse, meaning it’s used after makeup and skincare has already been removed.

There are several reasons why a powder cleanser is a good idea.

1. When travelling, it doesn’t need to go in your toiletries bag, meaning you save vital space for your other cosmetics!

2. As the formula is dry and waterless, you get more bang for your buck! Traditional cleansers are mostly made up of water, but here, you’re just paying for the active ingredients, not for water.

3. They’re more ecological than traditional cleansers. As they weigh less (due to containing no water), this cuts down on the environmental impact in transporting and shipping, as less CO2 is produced.

junoco clarifying cleansing powder

This cleansing powder is a gentle exfoliating cleanser. It contains hyaluronic acid, an ingredient that’s great for keeping your skin plump and hydrated, as well as sake kasu extract, and papaya extract. Sake kasu extract comes from rice bran, a by-product that would typically be disposed of. JUNOCO upcycle this ingredient by preventing it going to waste! The rice powder (sake kasu extract) within this cleanser is gently exfoliating. Many physical exfoliators can be a bit rough, but you don’t feel the exfoliating particles within this cleanser! The cleanser also contains papaya extract as a chemical exfoliant (so you’re getting two types of gentle exfoliation). But be careful with using exfoliating products when your skin barrier is compromised or if you’re experiencing sensitivity and irritation!

This cleanser is unfragranced, and has no discernible scent.

After using this cleanser, my skin is left feeling well-cleansed but not stripped or dried out, and I experience no tingling or burning.

Cleansing Cookie

Cleansing cloths/pads are a fab way to make your skincare routine that little bit easier. If cleansing is a chore for you, you might enjoy a product like this.

JUNOCO’s Cleansing Cookie is a super soft cotton reusable cleansing pad, that’s to be used to help remove your cleansing balm, cleanser or mask. The pad is incredibly soft and gentle on the skin with its supersoft fibres. It makes cleansing so much easier and quicker. JUNOCO say that you can use this alongside their cleansing balm, to facilitate the cleansing process. I’ve tried this, and I appreciate how it washes away the mascara on my eyes quicker!

I like to hang mine off the radiator to allow to to dry fully in between uses. The pad can be washed in the washing machine, too!

Overall, I really enjoy JUNOCO’s trio of cleansing products, and I’d wholeheartedly recommend them to you and my friends and family. In my opinion, the stand-out product of these three has to be the Clean 10 Cleansing Balm- I’m obsessed!

Comment below your thoughts of these products, and feel free to ask any questions!
